The much anticipated 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria has seemingly come and gone, but the aftermath effects are still very much rife and heavily present. People of different political background and affiliations have continued to react to the outcome of the said election and the eventual winner, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Meanwhile, as Nigerians have continued to react to the outcome of the election in question, we have decided as well, to mirror through some of the major factors associated with the outcome of the election. With the caption of this article talking about “how the minority will eventually lead the majority”.
Yes, this might sound confusing to a lot of persons, trying so hard to figure out what could that caption represent in the actual fact, and what could be the motive behind such also. Well, the point is simply that, the number of those who voted for the winning political party is far below the number of people who voted against the party. Get it straight, the APC got close to nine million votes, precisely 8,794,726, while the other opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Labour Party, LP, the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, etc, scored over thirteen million votes.
Now, looking at the above narrative, you should understand the direction of our discussion. But the sad reality is that, this has been the fate of Nigerians from time immemorial and at all levels, not just for the Presidential election. Then you ask yourself, what then should we do about this anomaly? The answer to that critical question equally requires a critical thinking as well.
Can the opposing parties come together to form a formidable force to achieve a collective agenda for the interest of the majority of the people? This is very possible, but remember that uncompromising selfish interest of most of the politicians in this part of the world will hardly allow this idea come into existence. Then you ask again, then the majority will continue to suffer same fate forever?
Well, Nigerians should learn to have a common political goal and agenda, aimed at giving the majority group or class, quality leadership, dividends of democracy and good governance. Yes, because it is evident that the caliber of politicians we have in this part of the world are mostly selfish and not willing to compromise on their selfish interest for the benefit of the people they are jostling to lead/represent.
This might sound almost impossible, but if we agree to resist religious, ethnic and political party sentiments, then you will see that this is very easy to achieve. But until that time, we must accept our current political fate, accept and support the outcome of the 2023 election, especially the Presidential election, while we plan ahead for the next election. Do not be discouraged by the outcome of the election, most especially for the sake of betrayal of trust by the system.
Nigeria is our only country and fatherland, let’s not indulge in any act capable of triggering unnecessary crisis and unpleasant circumstances.
