As the drama surrounding the recently introduced monetary policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the apex bank in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, continue to unfold on daily basis, with yet another drama involving the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu playing out on Sunday.
A story which went viral earlier today alleged that President Buhari had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to raid the residence of Tinubu. And that during the raid, the story alleged that the anti graft agency made a discovery of an outrageous sum, to the tone of four hundred billion Naira of the newly redesigned Naira notes, in the residence of the APC 2023 Presidential candidate.
The story has continued to generate mixed reactions across different online and social media platforms.
Well, EFCC has already come out to set records straight, by refuting the above allegation against Tinubu. They made it clear that no such sting operation was carried out at the residence of Tinubu, talk more of discovering the alleged 400billion Naira in his house, as such, urged the general public to disregard such story as it is a fake news.
On the other hand, some Nigerians who have reacted to the press release by EFCC tackled the anti graft agency for some personal reasons.
While some urged the agency to go ahead and raid the residence of the APC Presidential candidate because according to them, there’s no smoke without a fire, then some others queried EFCC on why they have failed to investigate the Bullion Van case involving the former Lagos State Governor.
Meanwhile, following the emergency meeting convened by some APC Governors and other party stakeholders earlier today, Sunday, February 19, 2023, they urged the Federal Government to comply with the order of interim injunction issued by the Supreme Court regards the phasing out of the old Naira notes, among other things contained in the communique issued at the end of the meeting.
