The last may not have been heard or seen with regards to the recent drama involving veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Pete Edochie and the Ooni of Ife. The latest is coming from a certain Igbo lady who did not hide her bitterness and envy with the way people holds Pete Edochie is such an enviable lofty height, such that he’s seen by many people as a revered institution and untouchable deity.
Recall that a footage from a recently held event captured the moment the veteran actor was seen exchanging a handshake with the Ooni of Ife. Meanwhile, since then, there have been an unending argument and debate on this very matter, with many people tackling Pete Edochie for exchanging a handshake with the Ooni instead of prostrating before him.
On the other hand, many others argued that it would have been humiliating for the veteran actor and the entire Igbo people should he had gone on to prostrate before the Ooni, on the ground that Pete is a high chief in his place, that he has sons older than the Ooni, among other factors put forward in the course of this debate and argument. And since then, it has been a sort of an unending drama, argument and debate on this very subject matter.
According to this lady in question identified as Precious Ijeoma Oriji, “…I really do not understand why this man (referring to Pete Edochie) is been revered like he’s a sort of god, like he is just a Nollywood actor.
Nothing more, he’s an actor just like Nkem Owoh and co. I really don’t get the fuss about him, pray tell pls.”
Meanwhile, it is so unfortunate the type of people we have in this country, people who have formed the ugly habit of never minding their businesses. Yes, the two personalities involved in this matter did what was pleasing to them, none of them have either complained about how they choose to exchange pleasantries on that fateful day. The big question then is, why are people drinking Panadol for another’s headache?
This is becoming something else amongst many Nigerians, especially since the full advent of the internet and social medias. Meanwhile, you will hardly see this category of humans engage in the discussion of national issues which have direct implications on their lives. May God almighty help us overcome this madness.
