Just as it has been widely speculated and anticipated, Chelsea head coach, Graham Potter has been sacked by the London football outfit, following an unending poor and embarrassing run of results, most especially Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat in the hands of Aston Villa.
Potter’s sack came barely a year after he was appointed Chelsea manager after the sack of his predecessor Tuchel, precisely about seven months ago. Saturday’s defeat by Aston Villa is Potter’s eleventh defeat in 31 games as Chelsea manager since he took over from the recently appointed Bayern Munich coach, Thomas Tuchel on September 8, 2022, who won three trophies in his twenty months in charge as the club’s manager.
Pressure has continued to grow around Standford Bridge regards Chelsea’s poor performance even after the club has spent over £550m to buy new players since the change of ownership of the club, with Boehly taking over from Roman Abrahimovic sometime in 2022.
In spite that huge spending, including £288m spent in January this year to secure the services of new players, yet nothing has changed in Chelsea’s performance since then, and the club now sits at the bottom half of the league table, and the possibility of a Champions League spot is equally almost out of sight.Â

He went further to criticize Chelsea’s recent transfer policy, were the club spent nearly £600 million on new players, yet failed to buy a single striker to lead the team’s attack.
Meanwhile, according to Fabrizio Romano, Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite to replace sacked Potter as new Chelsea manager. The source equally revealed that Nagelsmann was a major topic during the club’s discussion on the prospect of appointing a new manager during Chelsea’s internal discussions on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
