It is so sad and heartbreaking to see some of life’s great expectations cut short or altered as a result of one human predicament or the other, but sometimes such situations are beyond human control or whatever. Well, unfortunately that the current condition of popular, highly talented and fast rising Nigerian singer/rapper, Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known on stage as Victony.
This young talent who hails from Orsu LGA, Imo State, was involved in a fatal car crash on April 21, 2021, of which the accident claimed the life of one of his friends, Doyin, who was equally inside the car.
Meanwhile, in one of his interviews in the aftermath of the ugly incident, Victony revealed that he was only in Lagos at that period for a collaboration with DMW artiste, Mayorkun. It was then he followed a friend of his, YKB to a birthday party hosted by another musician/singer, Oxlade, in same Lagos State, of which he said was his first time of being to a club, where he equally met Zlatan in person, and some other music stars present there.
On the other hand, he was billed for an important interview with MTV Base the next day, but that was never to be as on their way home from the club, something terrible and unforgettable happened. According to him, he was feeling sleepy while they were heading home, he eventually slept off inside their car, and only to wake up three days later on a hospital bed, with his dad beside him.
It was a fatal accident, as another car had reportedly hit theirs from behind, resulting into a fatal car crash, claimed the life of the guy seated next to him. And for Victony, the doctor told him that he couldn’t walk as a result of the crash, which he never believed until he tried standing up on his own to walk, but to no avail, and it was at that moment he knew that he was really up for a serious life challenge (💔).
Meanwhile, his hit track titled “Holy Father” featuring Mayorkun was out and trending across the country at same period, and looking at his present condition was hellish for this young man, something he had never imagined. But in December 2021, something remarkable happened in his life, it was at the Eko Hotel, were he performed his hit song “Holy Father” alongside Mayorkun and Davido.
And that was the first time he performed the song or any other song while on his feet since after the fatal car crash in April 2021. All thanks to the man with trademark of “heart of gold”, Davido, who had to wrap his hands/arms around Victony’s shoulders, helping him stand on his feet to perform the hit song, with Davido shouting “God is great” out of joy and happiness.
He also revealed some other memorable encounters at same time, as he met Wizkid same night at the Eko Hotel while he was headed to Buju’s (Bnxn) show. He equally ran into Burna Boy, who was beaming with happy smiles at the sight of him (Victony), and according to him, “At first, I was like, – It can’t be me (that Burna Boy was smiling at)…does Burna Boy know who I am?”
And to his surprise on getting closer, Burna Boy was like, “bring him forward, and they exchanged pleasantries immediately, including an affectionate hands shake, and Burna at same spot said to him (Victony) “Bro, we need to make music,” and the rest there say is history.
Well, he has remained on wheel chair till date, but it has not in any way stopped him from chasing his dreams, conquering and making great and enviable impacts in the country and beyond. He has had a couple of hit songs since then, while he has equally collaborated with several A-list musicians in and outside the country.
