News reaching our desk this evening indicates that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of popular Nigerian singer and social media sensation Shalli Popi, whose real name is Crown Uzama.
Him and five others were convicted and subsequently sentenced to two years jail term for internet fraud. Shalli Popi and others were accused of impersonating foreign nationals and subsequently using their images to defraud innocent people.
Shalli Popi who was arrested by the Kaduna State zonal command of the anti graft agency and arraigned in the court of law before Justice A. Isiaka on just one single count charge bordering on Criminal impersonation, which contravenes sections 57, 142 (1) and 308 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017, and as such, is punishable under section 309 same Penal Code Law of 2017.
He was actually arrested along side others like Joel Kator, Abdul Azeez Suleiman Temidayo, Favour Chidiogo Emmanuel, John Joseph, and Makouchukwu at different locations in the State. They all pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them, and as such, were convicted and sentenced accordingly, as reported by Gossipmill TV.
Though the presiding judge, Justice Isiaka aside the two years jail term awarded to each of them, he equally gave them option of fine. While on the other hand, all the items recovered from them, like electronic gadgets, furniture, others were forfeited to the Federal Government as instructed by the judge.
