Since the inception of the era of the new Naira policy of the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, lots of drama and controversies have continued to trail the policy, especially the implementation, across the country.
Funny enough, the political narrative in the country has obviously taken a new dimension across the country as well, to the extent that the insistence of President Buhari on the existence of the policy has evidently fetched him new sort of love from a certain group of people who initially had the President in their bad books, while on the other hand has successfully fetched him hate feelings from those who initially had him in their good books, and defended his policies and orders fanatically.Â
Without mincing words, that’s the reality on ground at the moment in the country. Prior to this moment or era of new Naira policy, most persons from the southern part of the country, especially in the South East and some other parts of the country, including most supporters of the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, were never in love with most policies of the President, and had often voiced out their animosity towards the President without hesitation or pretence. Hence the supporters of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, named this group of people “Wailers” while they themselves are known as “Hailers” on the other hand.
But at the moment, the President has become so dear to the hearts of the traditional “Wailers” who are now “Hailers” while the other group has quickly switched position and are now happily occupying the seat of “Wailers”. Funny enough, these new “Hailers” are equally going through the same hardship posed by the New Naira policy, but simply because of the highly popularized opinion and notion that the new Naira policy is aimed at curbing vote buying during the upcoming general elections, they have decided to endure through the hardship, regardless of the pains and sufferings.
You may as well ask why are fingers pointing to the supporters of the ruling party regards vote buying? Well, rumours has it that other parties do not have that kind of money like the ruling party as to pursue vote buying during the election, especially the Presidential election. Yet, all of these have remained in the realm of allegation and rumours, as none has any concrete evidence to back up that allegation of intended vote buying.
But be that as it may, it is a widely flying belief and rumours that the new Naira policy is primarily targeted at politicians who are planning to buy their way into their various political positions via vote buying, hence the main reason the President has become the most loved bride by those who used to be Wailers but are now Hailers.
It is indeed a funny time to be a Nigerian while watching the political comic melodramatic situation unfolding steadily!!!
