Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin has finally been granted bail following her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over the alleged abuse of the newly redesigned Naira notes. The bail application filed by the embattled actress was granted by the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Anneke of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, today Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
She was admitted to a bail of five (5) million Naira after she was arraigned on a two count charge bothering on spraying and stepping on the new Naira notes at an event which took place in Lekki area of Lagos State, on January 28, 2023, which is a punishable offence in the country. The aforementioned category of abuse of the Naira note goes against the provisions of section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
Though she has pleaded not guilty to the two count charge, though a video of the incident had gone viral online then, at a moment the entire country was suffering from Naira scarcity following the new CBN monetary policy, which is still being experienced till date.
Other conditions of her bail include the fact that she must provide a surety that must be a senior civil servant, that must have a landed property in Lagos State, must provide a tax clearance evidence up to three years. Further, the actress is instructed to submit her international passport to the court as part of the bail conditions, and after that ruling the case was adjourned to April 3, 2023 for the trial of the case.
