The story on our desk this beautiful Sunday afternoon is not the most pleasant for the day. Yes, the story of this man identified as Emma whose family decided to push out of their lives simply because of his present health predicament is an extremely heartbreaking story, and no one deserves to be treated in that inhumane manner.
According to popular human Rights Activist and Voice of the Voiceless, Harrison Gwamnishu who shared the story via his official Instagram account, Emma used to work with a Steel Iron Company in Ikorodu, Lagos State prior to his current health condition of partial stroke. Unfortunately, as his health condition worsened, the family had to give up on him, and was allegedly left to die without any further help from his family.
He was eventually ejected from the family house and dumped by the road side somewhere at the lle-Oba Junction, Ogijo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. The community where the helpless and rejected man was dumped him immediately grew sympathy for him, and they had to use tyres to build protection around him so that vehicles won’t run over him, especially during the night.
He went further to appeal to the general public to come to aid of the dying Emma.
Well, I do not think the family of this man has any justification for the way they have decided to treat their sick and helplessly dying brother. If family members cannot come to the help of a sick member of the family, what then is the essence of having family members? Not just that the members of his family abandoned him at the time he needed them the most, but they conspired to eject him from home and dumped him on the road side to die without a help from them. Many people have strongly condemned the treatment meted out to the man.
In one of the reactions to the heartbreaking story, an Instagram user identified as @ayomideadewunmi wrote, “this is really heartbreaking…”
Another @theberryboom wrote, “the heart of man is very wicked. Please how can we help?”
