Former Liverpool playmaker and two time African footballer of the year, Sadio Mane is really having tough times at his new club, Bayern Munich. His latest predicament has resulted in him being dropped from the first team and will equally be fined for a breach of the club’s disciplinary measures. He has already been left out of the squad to face Hoffenheim on Saturday in their league game.
According to reports from multiple sources, including BBC Football, Mane allegedly punched teammate, Leroy Sane during their Tuesday champions league clash away to Manchester City which ended 3-0 in favour of City. It was reported that the duo were drawn into an altercation after that champions league match, during which Mane had to punch Sane in the face in anger, and the duo were said to have been separated by their teammates.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from Bayern Munich, they confirmed the suspension of Mane from the team, citing that the latest treatment meted out to Mane is as a result of his misconduct. Though it was equally reported that Mane complained of not being happy with the way Sane spoke to him in the build up to the ugly incident.
“This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mane will also be given a fine,” part of the club’s statement reads.Â
Recall that Mane has suffered a couple of injuries in recent times, which has really affected both his performances and playing time. He has equally had to either be substituted or playing from the bench, including the Tuesday’s Champions League match against Manchester City were he came into the game from the bench at the closing stages of the game.
The Senegalese international has had to contend with the aforementioned issues alongside other frustrations bedeviling his once blossoming career, especially at Liverpool and his early weeks following his arrival at the German champions in a deal worth about 35 million pounds (£35m) in 2022.
Meanwhile, after netting an impressive six goals in his first seven games for Bayern Munich after arriving at the club, which was since October 2022, he is yet to score again for the club. And definitely, all of these are enough to plunge Mane into severe frustrations and heartbreak, especially knowing that a lot is expected of him, particularly considering the fact that he is expected to fill the void created by the departure of Robert Lewandowsky.
Well, it is not yet known when his suspension will be lifted.
