Since the release of the movie titled “Dark October” by media mogul, Linda Ikeji few days ago on Netflix, she has come under serious fire, and currently, she’s trending on Twitter over same issue. The release of the movie has triggered mixed reactions from people, with most of those who have reacted to the movie seriously and heavily bashing/criticizing her over the movie.
Well, recall that four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) were gruesomely murdered in 2012 in a certain community known as Aluu, in Obiakpor LGA of Rivers State, which then triggered both national and international out cry. That incident remained one of the most heartbreaking jungle justice ever witnessed in this part of the world. As such, Linda Ikeji decided to package the sad event into a movie, but she has gotten into the bad books of most Nigerians over that.
It all began few weeks ago when news broke out that the parents of the deceased UNIPORT students have kicked against the release of the movie about their sons titled “Dark October”. Regardless of the disapproval by the parents of the ALUU-4, the movie was eventually released on February 3, 2023 on global streaming giant, Netflix. Since then, it has been hellish for the producer of the movie, Linda Ikeji, as she has faced a barrage of attacks across social media platforms.
Many have accused her of deliberately being insensitive to the plights, feelings and emotional trauma of the deceased parents, hence why she went ahead to release the movie regardless of the resentment of the families of the boys. Many others equally blamed her for failing to obtain consent from the boys parents before embarking on that project, at least, the boys parents would have been emotionally prepared to confront the rekindling of the sad memories of the gruesome murder of their children through the movie in question.
Meanwhile, some others have actually backed the media mogul over the release of the movie in question, and as such, it has become of a sort of tug of war between both opinions.
