Veteran Nollywood actress, Iniobong Edo popularly known on screen as Ini Edo has once again stirred up controversies, especially on the social media platforms with her comment regard her erstwhile marriage and other sensitive issues during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.
She revealed that her erstwhile marriage with American based businessman, Philip Ehiagwina, was actually not from her mind, as she was forced into the marriage by her family, which she regretted afterwards.
In her exact words, Ini Edo said, “I regretted my decision to get married because it wasn’t just the right move to make.”
She further stated that she will only consider marriage once the right man is involved. Meanwhile, the Akwa-Ibom State born screen goddess further made it known that she had a child in 2021 via surrogacy after enduring a couple of miscarriages.
“I chose surrogacy because I had a couple of miscarriages. And I just got tired of trying, she told Chude Jideonwo during the interview, and further added, “I don’t have a husband. So, I’m like, I want a child for myself, whether I have a husband or not.”
And that she was so eager to have a child of her own blood, and by his grace it was possible in the end as her eggs were good enough to actualize it.
“So, what other options would I have? And I wanted it to be my child. My eggs. Thankfully, my eggs are good. So I did that,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, it is left to be clarified on who was responsible for the pregnancies that resulted in those miscarriages, going by the fact that her marriage to Philip Ehiagwina which was contracted in November 2008 only lasted about five (5) years before the marriage crashed beyond repair in 2013. Well, that will be a conversation for another day.
Reacting to the controversial interview, several persons have lambasted the actress, alleging that she was never interested in marriage, among several things said to her in that regard.
“We know you have always been for streets, so it’s nothing new,” @ Fortune Fortunatus Fubara remarked.
“It came to us as a shock when we heard that you are married, but now we understand better,” @ John Duke remarked as well.
“Because your reason for marriage was outside God’s manual of marriage (i.e Bible)” @ Lekan Oyedeji claimed.
